Skalicky Drives From 18th to Win Sportmod Feature, Arneson Wins Mods From 11th

WEST FARGO, N.D. (May 12, 2017) – Just as he did on opening night, Jesse Skalicky parked his IMCA Sportmod in KRJB 106.5FM Victory Lane for his second consecutive win at Red River Valley Speedway on Friday. The Fargo driver started back in the 18th position for the 18-lap Eide Bailly feature, but quickly found his way into the top ten by lap three.

The defending RRVS Sportmod track champion cracked the top five on lap five before taking the lead with eight circuits remaining.

“That was a blast, I’m out of breath,” said Skalicky in victory lane. “This Fury Chassis was amazing. We were fast in the heat but hit the wall. I can’t tell you how much was wrong with the car. We didn’t quit working on it until the minute we went out and I didn’t know how the car was going to handle. This crew definitely won this one tonight.”

Austin Arneson also went back-to-back at RRVS on Buffalo River Sales, Drainage Solutions & AM970 WDAY night, winning the All Finish Concrete Modified feature. Arneson wheeled his way to the front after starting back in the 11th position.

“It took a lot of patients,” said Arneson in victory lane. “The track one kind of one-laned right away, but things slowed down and it came down to finesse.”

Tyler Peterson came home second, followed by defending track champion, Rob VanMil, Michael Greseth, and Dave Shipley.

Thursday night’s winner at Norman County Raceway, Luke Johnson, came from 11th to finish in the runner-up position as Chris VanMil rounded out the podium.

Fifteen-year-old Fargo native, Tim Estenson, picked up the Petermann Seeds INEX legends feature win. Estenson held off defending track champion, Josh Julsrud, and Andrew Jochim for his first career win at RRVS.

Duffy Froemke picked up the Audio Garage IMCA stock car win, while Cory Tammen found victory in the Fargo Force super stock feature.

Arneson Dominates Modified Feature, VanMil Wins Stock Car Debut

WEST FARGO, N.D. (May 5, 2017) – Racing returned to Red River Valley Speedway last Friday night with 99 cars checked in among five different divisions. Warm temperatures and sunny skies helped bring in a huge crowd, who saw fantastic racing all night long on the semi-banked three-eighths mile dirt oval.

Just as he did during last year’s season opener, Austin Arneson took the early lead of the All Finish Concrete IMCA Modified main event and never looked back. The Fargo driver pulled away from the 29-car field at the drop of the green flag before running off to an advantage of over a straightaway. Behind him, Billy Kendall and Mike Greseth were engaged in a fierce battle for the runner-up spot that intensified when they encountered lapped traffic.

Kendall held off Greseth to take second position at the checkers, but that all took place nearly seven seconds behind the race winner Arneson.

Dave Shipley and Austin brother, Cale Arneson, rounded out the top five.

Veteran auto racing driver Corry VanMil scored Red River Valley Speedway’s (RRVS) first-ever Audio Garage IMCA Stock Car feature win.

“This feels great,” said VanMil, who had to sit out the 2016 season due to health concerns.

The Lake Park, Minn. driver started fourth on the starting grid but charged into the lead on the opening lap. From there VanMil drove away from the field as the pack fought for the runner-up position.

“I didn’t know if I was going to finish the race,” continued VanMil. “The car was overheating and spitting water like crazy. I thought I was going to run out of cover-ups on my helmet.”

VanMil went on to lead every lap in the main event, adding another historic win to his legendary RRVS résumé.

Fargo’s Jesse Skalicky found victory lane in the Eide Bailly IMCA Sport Mods. The defending RRVS track champion drove by Luke

Tim Church edged out Dana Brandt in a wild A Transmission City IMCA Hobby Stock finish. Church, the 2016 IMCA Hobby Stock national rookie of the year, led all 12 circuits and took the checkers 0.352 seconds ahead of Brandt.

A pair of Shakopee, Minn. drivers led the field to the checkers during the Petermann Seeds INEX legends main event as Tim Brockhouse topped Baiden Heskett.

JUST ANNOUNCED: World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Return to Red River Valley Speedway in 2017

By Mike Spieker

WEST FARGO, N.D. (December 8, 2016) – In 2016 Jake Bitker and Nick Skalicky revived Red River Valley Speedway and brought back weekly racing to one of the country’s most historic dirt tracks. In 2017 Bitker and Skalicky are taking things one step further. They have inked a deal with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, which will bring the country’s premier dirt track touring series back to Red River Valley Speedway (RRVS) on Saturday, June 17th, 2017.

“The race fans will see a fantastic show, I believe,” said Skalicky. “It’s pretty exciting. The World of Outlaws have a long history with Red River Valley Speedway and we are happy we can keep that going.”

The 2017 date will come nearly five years to the day when the World of Outlaws (WoO) last visited the Red River Valley Fairgrounds in June of 2012, which was the first WoO show on the newly reconfigured and racy three-eighths mile oval. During time trials of that event a new track record was set by Brownsburg, Indiana’s Joey Saldana with a blistering time of 12.566 seconds, averaging 107.402mph.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the drivers think of the track. We’ve made some changes to turn four over the offseason,” continued Skalicky. “I’m interested to see what kind of crowd we get, too. The Outlaws always bring in a lot of people so I think it’s going to be a pretty big night.”

Along with the WoO, the event will be co-sanctioned with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA), the regional 410c.i. Sprint Car series. When the NOSA Sprints competed at RRVS last July, 33 Sprint Cars were checked in for the Red River Valley Fair special. As of now, there are 14 confirmed drivers that will compete full-time on the WoO tour, combine that with other regional Midwest drivers and there is potential for a great field of cars and talent.

Despite being just the second date for the WoO in eight years at RRVS, the return of the “Greatest Show on Dirt” will mark their 31st appearance at the West Fargo dirt track, dating back to 1981.

A support class for the event is still to be determined.

Stay tuned for ticket pricing and information.

Red River Valley Speedway will be hitting the ground running in 2017 and plans to announce its complete 2017 weekly schedule around the new year.

Arneson Sweeps Red River Valley for Second Sanders Mod Tour Victory

Posted on August 22, 2016 by Administrator Posted in NEWS, Uncategorized

By Mike Spieker

WEST FARGO, ND (August 19) – A Sanders Mod Tour and Red River Valley Speedway (RRVS) record 53 IMCA Modifieds were signed in Friday evening for night two of the tour. In a performance that mirrored his effort Thursday night at Norman County Raceway, Austin Arneson took the lead at the midpoint of the A-main and cruised to the $2,000 win.

John Nord and Myles Tomlinson led the 25-car field to the green flag for the 25-lap main event, with Nord leading the opening lap over Michael Greseth. On lap two, Gresesth, who already has a RRVS feature win to his credit, took the point away from Nord before opening up a comfortable lead.

Meanwhile fifth place starter, Arneson, moved by Nord for second one lap later and set his sights on the Innovative Air #17 of Greseth. Early on, it appeared as though Greseth was up to the task of keeping Arneson at bay, but as the feature wore on Arneson kept getting faster.

With 11 to go, Arneson reeled in Greseth and they went door to door down the backstretch. Arneson took the lead entering turn three as Greseth tried to counter with a crossover move, but was unsuccessful.

The lone caution of the race flew with 10 to go. On the restart, Arneson pulled away from the pack as Hunter Marriot began to challenge Greseth for second.

Arneson amassed a full straightaway lead in the closing laps and took the checkers with ease for his second consecutive Sanders Mod Tour win.

“It just took good, hard racing. I had a good race going with Mike [Greseth], but it was just fun racing with all of these guys. Patience was the key, running a good line, hitting my marks, and not thinking too hard,” said Arneson with a smile in KRJB 106.5FM Victory Lane.

Greseth edged out Marriot in what was a highly contested battle for the runner-up spot.

“I’m happy with second,” said Greseth. “If you’re on the same straightaway as Arneson you’re doing pretty good. I was hoping that caution wouldn’t have come out so we could have stayed in lapped traffic. Maybe that would have slowed him down a little.”

Tyler Peterson came from eighth to finish fourth as the 2015 IMCA Modified national rookie of the year, Rob VanMil, came from 10th to round out the top five.

Arneson once again picked up the $250 clean sweep bonus. Dave Shipley was the night’s Out-Pace Racing Products hard charger, advancing from 16th to eighth.
